We are so excited to announce that the SAM Home for the Elderly is finally opened! This has been a long road of land disputes, construction, supply shortages, and finally a finished facility. The elders in our Advocates for Elders program have been anxiously anticipating and praying for this day, and we are happy to report that they are thrilled with their new home.
The location chosen for this new home was a more accessible spot on a flatter surface and a larger plot of land. The hope for this is to enable opportunities for the elders to have more visitors and more possibilities for collaboration amongst multiple areas of ministry within Mission-Haiti. The land was large enough to create a home with room for at least 20 elders at a time, each in their own room. This new home also includes amenities that some of these elders have lived their whole lives without; running water, electricity, hurricane and earthquake safe cement roof, an infirmary, indoor kitchen and cafeteria. But what will remain and thrive is the love and care that they receive from their fellow elders, a community of brothers and sisters, and knowing that Jesus loves them and died for them and wants to continue and grow in relationship with them. We are so thankful to the VanderGriend family and so many advocates in the states who continue to support these beautiful and vibrant souls.
